Beauty school owner offers scholarship, free tuition in memory of aunt lost to breast cancer

TAMPA, Fla. – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dolly Monroe, founder of the Dolly Monroe Beauty Academy (DMBA) in Tampa, announced Thursday her beauty school is offering a scholarship worth $12,900 in memory of her aunt who passed away from breast cancer one year ago today.

The Tasha Morris Memorial Scholarship will provide one student with scrubs, textbooks, waived administration fees and free enrollment in DMBA’s 600-hour advanced beauty course.

“My Aunt Tasha was an incredibly strong woman who had such a positive impact not only on her family, but those who she worked with, as well,” said Monroe. “Breast cancer has taken so much from so many, but this scholarship is our way of turning it around and giving back, just like Aunt Tasha gave back to so many.”

To determine the scholarship recipient, DMBA is asking interested individuals to submit a two-page essay on why they want to attend the academy, how they want to use their esthetician degree, and what beauty means to them.

“We want the scholarship recipient to encompass everything Dolly Monroe Beauty Academy is about—someone who inspires and evokes beauty inside and out,” said Monroe.

The deadline for essay submissions is Dec. 14. Thereafter, top candidates will be invited for an interview with executive staff members and a tour of the academy. The winner of the scholarship will be announced on Dec. 23 as a holiday gift.

The earliest course that the scholarship may be used for begins Feb. 28, 2022.

Applicants interested in the Tasha Morris Memorial Scholarship are asked to post a two-minute video to Instagram @dollymonroe explaining why they should be the winner of the scholarship.
