Electrolysis VS. Laser Hair Removal
What's the difference?
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are both effective hair removal, but they work in different ways. Electrolysis uses an electric current to destroy hair follicles individually, making it suitable for all skin and hair types. In contrast, laser hair removal employs concentrated light beams to target and reduce hair growth over larger areas, typically best for those with light skin and dark hair. Both treatments can lead to long-lasting results, but the choice between them depends on personal preferences and individual needs.
Electrolysis & Laser Hair Removal FAQ
What’s the difference between electrolysis and laser hair removal?
Electrolysis permanently destroys the hair follicle one hair at a time and works on all hair colors and skin tones. Laser hair removal uses light energy to reduce hair growth and is best for darker hair with pigment.
Which treatment is best for me?
That depends on your hair color, skin type, treatment area, and goals. During your consultation, we’ll determine whether electrolysis, laser, or a combination is the best fit.
Is electrolysis permanent?
Yes. Electrolysis is the only FDA-recognized method of permanent hair removal.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser provides long-term hair reduction. Many clients experience significant reduction, but maintenance may be needed over time.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe electrolysis as a quick heat or pinch sensation. Laser feels like a warm snapping sensation. Comfort levels vary by area and pain tolerance.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the area, hair density, hormones, and consistency. Most laser clients need 6–8 sessions. Electrolysis varies because hair is treated individually and follows growth cycles.
Can all skin tones be treated?
Yes. Electrolysis is safe for all skin types. Our advanced laser technology can treat a all ranges of skin tones, but consultation is required.
Can blonde, red, gray, or white hair be treated?
Laser requires pigment in the hair to be effective. Electrolysis can treat all hair colors.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Please arrive with clean skin. For laser, shave the area 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid waxing, tweezing, or plucking before treatment.
Can I wax between sessions?
No. Waxing, tweezing, and plucking remove the hair from the follicle and interfere with treatment progress. Shaving is allowed.
Is there downtime?
Most clients return to normal activities immediately. Mild redness or sensitivity is normal and usually subsides within a few hours.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Yes, but we always perform a consultation and patch test when needed to determine the safest approach.
Can you treat hormonal hair growth (PCOS, chin hair, etc.)?
Yes. We commonly treat facial hair, hormonal growth patterns, and stubborn areas.
Is this safe for transgender clients?
Absolutely. We proudly provide hair removal services for all clients, including gender-affirming care.
What areas can be treated?
Face, chin, upper lip, underarms, bikini, legs, stomach, back, chest, and more.
Can I be in the sun before or after treatment?
We recommend limiting sun exposure before and after laser treatments, as tanned or irritated skin can increase sensitivity.
What should I avoid after treatment?
Avoid excessive heat, sweating, hot tubs, saunas, and direct sun exposure for 24–48 hours.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the treatment area and service type. We’ll review all options during your consultation.
Do you offer consultations?
Yes. Consultations help us assess your hair, skin, goals, and create the best treatment plan for you.
